The Challenge

Ringing Metal, Rising Noise, and Tightening Limits

Industrial facilities are full of thin metal that rings — equipment enclosures, ductwork, building cladding, and pipe walls. Fan-driven units, compressors, regulators, and flow turbulence set these panels vibrating, and that vibration radiates outward as noise.

At the same time, operators face tightening property-line (fenceline) limits, community complaints near residential areas, and OSHA worker-exposure requirements. Data centers, gas compressor and regulator stations, and HVAC-heavy sites are all under growing pressure to control noise — often after equipment is installed, when bulky acoustic hardware is costly or impossible to retrofit.

The industry needs a solution that reduces noise without a separate product — ideally from a coating already valued for thermal performance.

A Dual-Action Acoustic Coating

Independent laboratory testing shows that Super Therm® — long known as a thermal insulation coating — delivers two distinct acoustic benefits from one applied coat. Together they form a complete story: damp the source panels, and block the airborne path.

1 · Damp the Source

Structure-Borne Vibration

Applied to thin, resonating sheet metal, Super Therm converts vibrational energy into heat and removes it from the panel — reducing the “drumming” that radiates as noise and easing vibration-driven fatigue.

Proven under ASTM E756 (Oberst cantilever-beam): Material Loss Factor 0.134–0.224 across the full frequency range tested — effective damping throughout.
2 · Block the Path

Airborne Transmission Loss

On a coated wall or enclosure assembly, Super Therm contributes to blocking airborne sound from passing through — helping contain equipment noise or keep it from crossing into occupied spaces and reaching the property line.

Documented under ASTM E90 / E413 transmission-loss testing on coated wall assemblies. Full test data available for project submittals on request.

Scope: Super Therm’s acoustic benefits address structure-borne vibration damping (E756) and airborne transmission loss through coated assemblies (E90/E413). STC values reflect the complete coated wall assembly, of which the coating is a documented contributor. Super Therm is one component of a complete acoustic design — it is not a room sound-absorption (reverberation) treatment.
